Miami, FL October 25 2009 — International composer and producer Hugh Jarvis Hitchcock has just released his new pop album, Funkmeister. The CD is hailed as the flagship release of Hitchcock’s new record company, Funkatology Records LLC. Funkmeister combines funk, dance, Motown, world beat, neo-soul and Caribbean beats with a colorfully produced mix of some of the world’s most advanced talents.

Hugh Jarvis Hitchcock’s latest effort is a coherently produced concept album, focusing on texture developments within hypnotic, yet ‘ballsy’ rhythmic dance grooves, incorporating multi-dimensional sound environments, with a strong female vocal element throughout, that element being provided by Dutch vocalist Elisa Sintjago, a very strong new creative talent sure to be heard from again. Elisa’s talent and range on this album can be compared to Beyonce Knowles and even Chaka Khan or Mariah Carey. Adding immeasurable flavor on each song is renowned jazz saxophonist Jesse Jones Jr. on multiple saxophones and flutes. Also featured is veteran Miami guitarist Dennis Sierra (of K.C. and the Sunshine Band) who provides a strong rock edge to the music, plus “Miami New Times Best Percussionist of 2009” award winner Joe Collado on congas, timbales and Latin percussion. Also featured on the album are Larry Hirt, Jimi Ruccolo, and Derek J. Mason.

The cover art of the CD is very distinctive, showing a tableau of dancers and the “Captain Jarvis the funkmeister” on a podium. The art itself is reminiscent of 60’s counterculture cartoonist R. Crumb. The drawings on the CD cover are attributed to the amazing Brazilian artist Olavo Machado Neto.

Hugh Jarvis Hitchcock may be remembered best as the composer of the urban jazz fusion piece “Captain Jarvis”, which was recorded on United Artists label by world-class jazz violinist Noel Pointer. Captain Jarvis was picked by Motown producer Paul Reiser to be the breakout song on Noel’s urban crossover album “Feel It”. The song featured veteran bass player Will Lee (the David Letterman Show Band) on the signature bass line, and was the first major jazz-funk song ever to feature the five-string electric violin. “Jarvis” was one of the most requested tunes on WJZZ radio in Detroit, and continues to be a cult hit in DJ circles worldwide.

Various comments about the new record include the following:

“I love the CD! There is so much going on…so many ideas, colors, textures.”
Michael Josephs, composer and producer (Aug 30, 2009)

“I really dug the swirling sounds and deep grooves. What an orchestrator!”
– Theodore Trost aka Thaddeus Quince, Thaddeus Weekly (Sep 17, 2009)

“Huey Hitchcock plays the keyboard with the skill and speed of jazz great Chick Corea. I caught the tail-end of a jazz jam and my first thought was, ‘I can’t believe I’m not paying a $50 cover’…”
– Gabe Berman, Entertainment Editor, Miami Herald, The (FL) (Nov 02, 2007)

Hugh Jarvis Hitchcock’s new album FUNKMEISTER is now available from CD Baby and ITunes.
